    "ocrText": "December 26th,1928.\nDr. Herman Schlundt,\n404 Hicks Ave.,\nColumbia, Mo.\nDear Dr. Schlundt:\nYour letter of December 24th, with\nbill attached for expense account for trip to Washington\narrived today, and we are herewith forwarding check to cover.\nI have had occasion during the last day\nor so to look up the work by Siel, Viol & Gordon, and believe\nthat you will find the data regarding this work extremely\ninteresting in view of the experiments which you have recently\nbeen conducting. The reference is \"Radium 5; 40-41, May 1915\".\nThey have conducted experiments with radium taken orally as\nwell as intravenously, and there is no reason why your results\nshould not check with those recorded. The only point at\nissue in my mind is their assumption regarding the rate of\nelimination after 10 days. You will note that their data\nends at this period, and they have reported no radium deter-\nmination after that time. In view of the rather large\nquantity which they used, their work would have been much\nmore valuable had they continued the experiments for a matter\nof months.\nI sent the tube containing 1.1 milligrams\nof radium element to Dr. Flinn last week, and while talking\nwith him today he stated that it had been received, and that\nhe was today making the determinations requested. He will\nreturn the tube directly to you, as well as sending the data\nobtained.\nDr. Flinn feels very good over the outcome\nof the conference in Washington, as he feels that his position\nhas been more or less substantiated. Dr. Martland has come\naround to Dr. Flinn's way of thinking on a number of points\nat issue - namely, the distribution of radium throughout the\nsystem; possibility of the five girls in question, living a\nnormal life, if not recovering their normal health; belief\nthat with the elimination of pointing the brushes with the\nlips the hazard will be nil, etc. Dr. Martland and Dr.Flinn\nreturned on the same train, and Dr. Martland was disposed\nto be quite friendly with Dr. Flinn.\nIt seems to me that this conference may result\nin a more mutual understanding among all, and perhaps better\n-2-\ncooperation in the future. Certainly those that were prepared\nto \"dig up the dirt\" in this case were stopped before they\nhad an opportunity to get far. You will be interested to\nknow that there had been a motion prepared which would have\nbeen introduced shortly after lunch requesting that the Federal\nDepartment of Labor conduct this investigation, and from their\nattitude at the Conference you may well realize how we would\nhave felt regarding such an action.\nWe are giving our earnest attention to the point which\nyou raised with Mr. Lee and myself, but not at the Conference\nin Washington, in deference to our request, and are certainly\nhopeful that we can work out something which will prove to be &\ntrue solution of the problem at hand.\nThe latter part of last week we sent you the Wulf-Hess\nelectroscope, which I have long since promised, and trust\nthat it will be received O.K.
