Barker United States Radium Corporation 535 Pearl Street New York, New York My dear Barker: I have give serious consideration to your letter asking me to tell you whether I will be available on Sunday, March 17, to conduct and participate in tests for radioactivity on Mrs. Canfield. I have thought this matter over and will say that you may count on me to be there provided it is reasonably sure that I can start back to Columbia on the train that leaves Newark at six o'clock Sunday evening. I am sorry that Mr. Berry objects to Dr. Flinn for it seems to me that a direct way of finding out whe- ther Mrs. Canfield is active would be for Dr. Flinn to conduct both the gamma ray and the epxired air tests. Since it was reported to you somet ime ago that Mrs. Canfield was inactive, it seems to me that we ought to have at least one other impartial observer to help in conducting the test. Very likely her activity, if any, will be very low and possibly inactive, in which case the results of two observers would be far more conclusive than observations by one person. If Mr. Berry offers any objection to my parti- cipating in the tests, I hope that you will secure Dr. Failla or some other competent person. Furthermore, it seems to me that the test should also include the deternination of radium in a sample or two of excreta. This last suggestion is especially important in case Mrs. Canfield is found to be quite radioactive by the expire air and the gamma ray methods. Please advise me as soon as you have some defi- nite information whether or not you want me to come.
