March 6th,1929. Dr. Herman Schlundt, University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. Dear Dr. Schlundt: We have completed the examination of the standard radium solution which you submitted to us and I beg to herewith report the following results: By boiling the solution with nitric acid and de-emanating, and then again by collecting the emanation for testing by boiling we obtained 1.36 - 1.46 and 1.38 x 10-8 as the quantity of radium contained in 20 cc of the stock solution C. When the solution is de-emanated by the bubbling of air through same, and again collecting the carnation for test by drawing air through we obtained 1.26 - 1.34 X 10-8 grams of redium per 20 cc of stock solution C. It, therefore, appears that this solution has changed little from the initial value when the emanation is collected by the nitric acid method, but there is a slight loss involved when collected by bubbling. On Dr. Fialla's sample we find by the nitric acid method 2.5 X 10-8 grams of radium per cc, and by bubbling air through the solution 2.6 X 10-8. Dr. Fialla's value was 3.1 M 10-8. Sincerely yours, Vice President. HHBarker:RH
