Barker, Vice-President\nUnited States Radium Corporation\n535 Pearl Street\nNew York\nMy dear Barker:\nI received this morning your special delivery letter, in fact,\ntwo letters and in reply let me say that I shall arrange to be in Newark on\nSunday, March 17th to conduct the electrosconic test on Mrs. Canfield.\nMy plan is to leave Columbia at four o'clock on Firday after-\nnoon and then take the midnight train on the Pennsylvania which will get me\ninto Newark early Sunday morning. I think the train is due in Newark about\nseven o'clock. Now this hour is altogether too early arising hour on Sunday\nmorning for a New Yorker living in the suburbs, so let me suggest that you\nhave your Saturday evening frolic and let me get my breakfast at the Trent\nHotel where you could meet me between eight and nine o'clock. I am sure that\nthis will be a more convenient arrangement for you than trying to meet me so\nèarly in the morning.\nI am pleased to hear that you are planning to standardize the\nemanitation electroscopes, and by leaving the instruments in Berry's office on\nSaturday, why, the instruments would have the normal, natural drift.\nI hone that we can arrange our time to permit making a reading of\nthe natural drift instruments before the hour of ten o'clock.\nI am glad to hear that at least one of the girls who is married\nis rearing a family of children. Now the next question is, are the children\nradioactive?\nSince I have not yet received any money from either the U. S.\nGovernment or the lawyers, my balance in the bank is not very flush. I hope\nyou will be kind emough to furnish me with a little money when I reach Newark,\nsay $50, so that I will not get stranded in the East.\nWe have just received some quartz fibers which were ordered about\na month ago. Our next problem will be to get these mounted in the Wulf electro-\nscope. This will be our first attempt at producing quartz fiber instruments. I\nUNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI\nCOLUMBIA\nDEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY\nBarker - - - -2\nhave looked at these quartz fibers and it seems to me that they are too\nfine.
