April 15th,1929. Dr. Herman Schlundt, University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. Dear Dr. Schlundt: I have not heard from Dr. Flinn as to whether he has proceeded with the standardization of the ganna ray electro- scope or not. Recently Dr. Flinn has been in communication with our friend Dr. Knef and, apparently is attempting to effect a settlement, which, in view of past performances of Dr. Knef, we do not look upon very favorably. We are somewhat at a loss to understand Dr. Flinn injecting himself into this matter in the manner which he has. We have been advised by Gunther and Teganeyer that the additional electrometer was shipped on March 26th, and are in hopes to have this inour possession in the near future. Dr. Ives was in New York some two weeks ago, and I had the pleasure of a visit with him one afternoon. He seemed like a very fine type of man, and quite enthusiastic about the work at hand. I presume that I was in error in suggesting that Dr. Gish thought that the anomalous effect which we observed in Newark, was due to cosmic rays, for Drl Ives advised me that he suggested that it might be due to ultra violet radiation. Some little time ago when talking with Dr. Flinn he stated that he was on a dlew which might solve this problem - he felt that the variations might be due to heat and moisture, and it seems that he is conducting some exper iments to substantiate this, but I don't know how conclusive his data is. I have taken occasion to call to the attention of Messrs Markley and Smith that the bills for your professional services are unpaid and asking them to take/of care this matter. I hope to hear that you have been reimbursed for your expenses East, as well as re- ceiving pay for services rendered. With kind regards, I am Very truly yours, Vice President. HHBarker:RH
