Mr. C. E. Lee,
United States Radium Corporation,
New York City, N.Y.
Dear Mr. Lee:
I saw in the paper that Judge Clark has suggested mediation in the
present radium cases and I thought I might presume to suggest that you should be
careful in the matter as I know of some three or four other cases which will pro-
bably bring suit against you. It seems to me that the matter should be approached
in a way that should take care of all future cases that may arise and which you
might be willing to admit were cases after you had had them examined by your
doctors and experts. In fact I think they should be handled exactly as any com-
pensation would be handled. I am simply warning you because I get views be-
hind the scenes now and then.
No one regrets more than I do the publicity that has been given
about these children and I took the parties to task for breaking their word in
the matter as it was agreed that there was to be no legal action or publicity
in the matter. Fortunately I have never given them any report and I do not think
they can get any one to make an electroscopic test for them. The amounts present
is very small and I heard definitely from the dentist that the gums and teeth
conditions are chiefly newspaper talk. Of course I am telling this to you in
confidence tho I do no object to your passing it on to the lawyers under the
same conditions. I am only interested in the children from a scientific view
point and when the cases are absolutely settled I want to get x-rays etc., but
will not make a move under any condition now.
Yours truly
Fridench B.G.
