Dr. Flinn is probably a little too sensitive regarding this
whole radium situation, due primarily to the fact that he has been most
severly criticized by the Public Health School at farvard, as woll as some
of our good medical friends in New Jersey.
On the whole the conference was most satisfactory, and I think
we both felt much better after we had had a real frank discussion of the
points involved.
Dr. Flinn wished me to convey to you the fact that he felt that
he should be very careful regarding any data published with reference to
elimination, for such data will be scrutinized carefully by his opponents,
and criticized if there is any opportunity.
He stated that he would
be glad to cooperate with you in collecting excreta from patients who are
now under his observation, and he could thereby collect some real authentic
information. Ho seemed disposed to cooperate with you and me as far as
we were concerned in continuing this study, and I believe that he was
sincere in this statement. I, however, feel that this work should be
carried on by you and Dr. Flinn, if you care to cooperate, and that I
should be left out of the picture in any future work. I think that this
will probably be more satisfactory from many angles.
I trust that when you reply to Dr. Flinn's recent comm unications
that you answer the first letter he wrote you, and poss over the second
one more or less lightly, for I believe that was written by Dr. Flinn when
he was not looking at the situation from a cooperative viewpoint.
This letter will probably appear rather rambling, but I hope
that you are able to correlate it with the correspondence from Br. Flinn
Sincerely yours,
Vice President.
