Attention Mr. H. R. Barker:
My dear Mr. Barker:
This will acknowledge receint
of your communicat on dated February lst.
The matter has been brought to
the attention of the Board of Directors of the Mayo Clinic
and they wish to state clearly the polioy of the Clinio in
not permitting members of the staff to beoome involved in
medico-legal matters except when the Clinic or a fellow
physician in good stand ing is the defendant. Furthermore,
the Board has strictly discouraged the staff from acting
as an expert witness, giving depositions, eto. Every
endeavor is made to limit this feature of medico-legal
practise and in this field they are restrioted as regards
the facts or findings of the Clinic in the case of patients
of the Clinio. Thus the Board strongly urges me not to
take part.
Sincerely regretting that I am
not in a position to be of service to you, I am,
Very truly yours,
H. H. Bowing, M. D.
