This will acknowledge receipt of Collins à Corbin's letter
under date of March 6th, as well as copy of Edwards and Smith's letter of
March 5th, relative to the bills of Drs. Stevens and Pohle as expert
witnesses in Chicago in accordance with depositions taken February 24th.
After careful consideration of the bills of these men, as well
as our relations with them, we hardly feel that it would be advisable to
raise any question relative to the fees which they have charged for their
services.
While you may not agree with us that these men should have speat
the time indicated in proparing theaselves to ably give such testimony as
asked for, still we feel that even though these not are considered experts in
the field of radiup therapy that they would not be qualified to give as
dofinite and concise enswers without a roview of the literature as they would
with such a review. Furthermore, it must be recalled that Dr. Pohle made a
trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to look up some of the records of patients to
whom he had administered radium chloride internally at our request, and
that during this trip he also took occasion to search the literature at the
library at the University.
Dr. Stevens, whom I as confident spent more time then we realize
in preparing himself for the ordeal which he went thru in Chicago, 1 feel
is a mon who would be entirely fair and just with us in his charges, and
would bot charge us a fee which he did not feel entirely justified, con-
sidering the time which he expended in our behalf, as well as loss of time
in his private practice.
No are, therefore, not writing these men asking them to reduce
their bills, but resubmitting the matter to you for your consideration with
the hopes that these bills will be paid without any question. However, if
you do not agree with us our suggestion is that you take up the matter
directly with Dr. Stevens and Dr. Pohle.
Very truly yours,
Vice President.
