COPY TESTS FOR RADIOACTIVITY on MRS. SAXER, ( RUTH WINTERS) June 19 and 20, 1930. The tests were conducted in the office of Dr. Humphries, Orthopaedic Hospital, Orange, New Jersey. The first series of gamma ray measurements was made June 19,1930. Another test with the gemma ray instrument was conducted the following day. The tests for radioactivity of expired air could not be carried out successfully June 19,1930, on account of the extreme humidity of the atmosphere; but the next day the conditions for making measurements had improved decidedly. The results of these tests leave no doubt in my mind that Mrs. Saxer is distinctly radioactive. The gamma ray test as well as the expired air test definitely established this conclusion. The expired air test failed to show the presence of mesothorium, but the test for radium are positive. Our quantitative measurements enable us to state that the total amount of radium present in Mrs. Saxer lies between 5 to 8 micrograms. Respectfully submitted, (signed) Herman Schlundt.
