Dr. L. R. Thompson,
Surgeon in Charge,
U.S. Public Health Service,
Room 1-123 C.Bldg.,
16 - 7th St. S.W.
Wash. D.C.
Dear Dr. Thompson:
I have just been reading over Dr. Flinn's report
on our girls, and also I have been reading over a letter of
Mr. Ingraham in reference to a report on his girls.
From our conversation in New Haven, I gather that
the reports of Dr. Flinn and Mr. Knowles will not agree as a result
of their joint examination of some of the girls, although of this
I cannot be certain because I have not seen a copy of Mr. Knowles'
findings nor any report you contemplate issuing at some time in the
future.
I have been reading over your letter of April 28th,
in which you say "You may be sure that no report will be issued by the
Public Health Service until you and the representatives of the
Ingraham and New Haven Clock Companies have had an opportunity to
see what work we have done."
In view of your splendid cooperative spirit you
have manifested throughout all this study, I would like to ask if you
have a preliminary copy of your completed report that you.would be
good enough to send it to me so that I might discuss it with Messrs
Ingraham and English, and make any suggestions that we might think
necessary or proper. I think if you would do this that it will
result in your report having the endorsement of the manufacturers when
it is finally given out for publication. You will appreciate that
personally I have no fear of any report which the United States
Public Health Service might issue itself, but unfortunately, there
are other agencies which would be only delighted to seize upon any
unfortunate word construction and immediately blazen forth in
headlines again.
Whether or not you think it proper to accede to this
request, I still want to assure you of my personal appreciation of the
very fine attitude you have taken in all your contacts with our factory.
Very truly yours,
WATERBURY CLOCK COMPANY

CHG:CDR
Vice President.
