January 9,1931. Dr. James Ewing, Cornell University Medical College, 1st Ave. and 28th St., N.Y.C. Dear Dr. Ewing: To date we have received two bills from the New Jersey Orthopaedic Hospital, account of Katherine Schaub, totaling in the neighborhood of 1,200 to $1,300, and while we appreciate that this charge is not excessive considering the accomodations which she has, nevertheless we are wondering how long it may be necessary to continue this sort of care. As you realize we are not raising this with a view of shirking our responsibility, but when expenses amount up as they are in the case of Miss Schaub, we must feel assured that her condition necessitates such care, and that she cannot be equally well provided for on a basis whereby the expense would not be quite as high. I note from time to time that we receive a bill for ambulance services in connection with transport- ing Miss Schaub to the Metcalf Foundation. Can you advise us the type of treatment or for what reason it is necessary for her to go to this instution? We would very much appreciate a few lines from your Committee advising us as to the condition of Miss Schaub and your prognostications with regard to the near future treatment. Very truly yours, HHBarker:RH Vice President.
