DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY CORNELL UNIVERSITY MEDICAL COLLEGE FIRST AVENUE AND 28TH STREET NEW YORK JAN 13 1931 January 12, 1931. Mr. H.H. Barker, U. S. Radium Corporation, 535 Pearl Street, New York City. My dear Mr. Barker: Dr. Craver went to see Miss Schaub yesterday and reports that she is considerably improved and sitting up. In order to reduce expenses as far as possible, Dr. Craver and Dr. Humphries recommended that she be sent to a Convalescent Home, where the cost will be about $25.00 a week. She does not really need much medical care. Miss Schaub has agreed to this change. I have been considerably disturbed over the mounting costs of these patients, but Craver and I fail to see how we can make much impression on them. I regret that I have not kept a record of the bills paid during the past year. I would like to inform Dr. Krumbhaar of the nature and extent of these expenses. If it is not too much trouble, I wish you would send me a list of all bills paid in the past year. I will then take upthe entire matter with Dr. Krumbhaar and Craver. Sincerely yours, Juring James Ewing. P.S. Miss Schaub had to go to the Metcalf Foundation by ambulance for 10 X-ray treatments. These treatments have evidently done a good deal of good, although they have not cured the sarcoma from which she is suffering. The final outlook in this case is poor, but I find it quite impossible to say how long the disease will last.
