    "ocrText": "May 5th,1931.\nDr. Herman Schlundt,\nUniversity of Missouri,\nColumbia, Mo.\nDear Dr. Schlundt:\nThru Dr. John and Mr. Armstrong, of the Radium Extension\nService, the Elgin State Hospital are undertaking quite an extensive\nprogram in treating mental cases with radium chloride, administered\ninternally.\nI think the interest of the Institution on this subject\nwas aroused by Dr. Carlson, and while he is not active in the matter,\nstill I believe he is consulting with the officials at the Institution\non the subject.\nDr. Le Blanc of Elgin, Ill., has been conducting quite\nan extensive survey on blood tests for Dr. Read, the head physician\nat Elgin State Hospital. I don't exactly know what the purport of Dr.\nLe Blanc's work is, but apparently he feels that there is a possibility\nof tying up a definite blood change with the introduction of radium\nchloride into the system. Dr. Le Blanc's work in this connection may\nbe of considerable interest to Mr. Thomas and his Associate in their\nstudy of the effects of radium chloride physiologically, at the University\nof Missouri.\nAn idea of what Dr. Le Blanc is doing may be obtained from\nan article entitled \"Biokinetics of the Blood\", by F. LeBlanc, appearing\nin Clinical Medicine and Surgery, for January 1930. Further material\nregarding this line of work may be found in a book printed under the\nauspices of Cornell University, under date of June 1930, and known as\n\"Colloid Symposium\". I have not gone into this subject matter, and\ntherefore, cannot give you much of an idea as to what it is all about,\nbut undoubtedly Mr. Thomas will be very much interested.\nSome little time ago I wrote you relative to possible\ninterest you might have in conducting some electroscopic tests in con-\njunction with the administration of radium chloride to patients at the\nElgin State Hospital, but have not heard anything further from you on\nthis subject. I am today writing Mr. Armstrong, making the suggestion\nthat possibly there might be someone at Elgin who could conduct the\nroutine gamma ray tests if they were properly instructed as to the\ntechnique involved, and were granted the loan of an instrument.
