MAY I 1931
UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI
COLUMBIA
DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY
May 7th, 1931.
Mr. H. H. Barker
United States Radium Corporation
535 Pearl Street
New York City, New York
My dear Barker:
With regard to the forthcoming report of
the United States Department of Public Health, let me
say that I have heard nothing from Dr. Leake since I
visited Washington early in January. He promised to
send me a copy of the revised report after it had been
submitted to several other persons who might offer some
suggestions, but I have not received a copy and so I as-
sume that it is still in the process of revision.
It is rather unfortunate that there is not
some closer cooperation between Dr. Flinn and the Depart-
ment of Public Health, especially since some of these men
in the Public Health Service are close friends of Dr.
Flinn. Dr. Flinn doubtless has made a large number of
measurements and if he has kept a systematic record of
his measurements, these statistics should be of value to
the Public Health Service.
Dr. Lind and I made a careful examination
of the experimental data and while we could not, of course,
examine in detail the extensive data sheets which were
available, our inspection of several cases chosen at ran-
dom certainly convinced us that the work was fairly care-
fully done. I think we also came away feeling that there
was hardly an escape from the conclusion that the workers
in the dial plants became slightly more active from year
to year. The activity of the workers was very low and I
doubt whether one should be alarmed about the health of
these workers as a group.
Sincerely yours,
Herman Schlundt
Herman Schlundt.
