Gentlenen:
At the request of the United States Radium
Corporation I am sending you herewith a memorandum containing
information contained at conference on the 13th inst. with Mr.
Vincent La Porte and his attorney with respect to radium
poisoning and consequential injury alleged to have been suffered
by his wife, Irene F. Corby La Porte. This supplements letter
sent by C. B. Lee, Bage, President of the United States Radium
Company on May 12, 1931.
It is apparent that this case arises during
your coverage The case looks like a serious case which will
probably prove fatal within a few months. Almo, it is undoubted-
ly a radium case. Mr. Barker is going to interview the various
physicians including Dr. Martland and Dr. Humphries, the two
named doctors being specialists in thi S field who are undoubted
ly competent to diagnose the cases
Apparently the period of suffering has not
been great as you will note from the memorandum. She was first
advised of the fact that she may have radium poisoning in
October, 1930. Prior to that she was in general good health
with the exception that she complained of pain in her head and
jaw for a period of approxinately two years, according to her
husband. However, examination of her teeth and jaw failed to
show eny injury and apparently no one suspicioned that she had
radium poisoning until she saw Dr. Silverstein in October,
1930. However, the medical expenses are probably high due to
the fact that she has had constant medical attention since
last October and has been confined to hex bed for the last
eight months, having been treated by approximately five or
six doctors.
If Drs. Martland and numphries are of the
