COPY SENT TO MR. MARKLEY August 11th,193h. Mr. George B. Pesinger, New Amsterdam Casualty Co. 60 John St., N.Y.C. Mr. E. H. Galentine, The Globe Indemnity Co., Mrs. LaPorte vs U.S.Radium Corporation Washington Place, Newark, N.J. Gentlemen: Supplementing our letter of June 16th, and Mr. Markley's letter of June 16th: No are glad to advise you that we have found an employment card of Mrs. Irene Corbey Laporte, which states that she was first employed by us 5/14/17, as inspector, with the notation piece work, which indicates that she probably was doing painting at that time, but there is no date stating when this work was taken up. The card states that she left our employment 12/11/18. to According/the information obtained from Mr. LaPorte at the conference hold in Er. Markley's office on June 13th, Mrs. LePorte was employed by us in the Spring of 1917, end worked for approximately one year, and then was again employed by us for a matter of a few weeks during the summer of 1918. Our records do not show where Mrs. LaPorte was employed by us subsequent to 12/11/18 - however, as we have previously stated our records are very incomplete and at is quite possible that Mrs. LaPorte was put on for B short time during the summer of 1918 to help out. Mrs. LaPorte, as you will recall, died June 16,1931, and we have a copy of the death certificate which is signed by Harrison S. Martland, Chief Medical Examiner, City Hospital, Newerk, N.J. Be attributes the principal cause of death to "Occupational Radium Poisoning in Watch Dial Industry, Ostejemic Sercome of Pelvis", contributary cause "Metastasis to Lungs". Be further states that the disease or injury was related to occupation of deceased and specified radium dial painter. Er. LaPorte's attorney, Mr. Emerglick, was in touch with Mr. Markley's office and advised them that unless we were interested in settling this case be was gong to start suit. lir. Markley's office advised him that Mr. Markley was away and would not return until August 10th, at which time Mr. Warkley would com- sunicate with Mr. Emmerglick. No presume that this matter will come up for attention very shortly now e ask your cooperation in this matter to determine what procedure we shall It is quite possible that we shall ask for a conference with you during few days.
