UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI COLUMBIA DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY September 14th, 1931. SEP 16 1931 Mr. H. H. Barker United States Radium Corporation 535 Pearl Street New York City My dear Barker: I had a talk with Horace Thomas who is conducting the experiments on the administra- tion of radium to rats and he reports that the colony is still thriving but there are some indi- cations now that the radium is having an effect on the boney skeleton. The last time he injected radium solution some of the rats put up a little struggle and in this way two of them had a frac- ture of bone in the leg. He is, however, planning to continue a little while longer and hopes now to mate a pair of the radioactive rats to see if there will be any transmission of radium to the offspring. The entire colony has come through the summer heat and I hope it will survive the hot spell we are now enduring. We need another shipment of about 20 5-microgram ampoules of radium solution to carry send 9/16/31 forward the experiments. LAAB. With very kind regards, I remain, Sincerely yours, Herman & chdundt Herman Schlundt. hs.as
