UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI COLUMBIA DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY April lst, 1932. APR 4 1932 Mr. H. H. Barker United States Radium Corporation 535 Pearl Street New York City My dear Barker: In this morning's paper-eKansa: City Star find a column entitled "Yields to a Slow Death. Radium poisoning finally kills Pittsburgh steel man", ( Eben M. Byers). In this connection it states that the death ensued from an abcess of the brain; I assume that this might mean a tumor or cancer of the brain. It also says that he began drinking Bailey's Radithor some two years ago for an "ailing arm". It seems to me that it is not at all conclusive that his death was caused by radium. There is a bare possibility that the radium prolonged his life, by checking the ailment of his arm, which may have been cancerous. I know that you are far more concerned about this than we are here, but if you can give us any further information bearing on this case, we will appreciate it. With very good wishes, I remain, Sincerely yours, Herman Schlunott Herman Schlundt. hs.as
