Dr. Herman Schlundt,
University of Missouri,
Columbia, Mo.
Dear Dr. Schlundt:
With reference to your letter of May 30th, asking
that we place at your disposal the two emanation electroscopies which
Dr. Flinn has:
-
I must advise that these instruments are the proper-
ty of Dr. Flinn and not ours. I have, therefore, not taken occasion
to discuss the matter with Dr. Flinn inasmuch as you stated in your
letter that you were addressing a communication directly to him at
the time you weote me. I hope that Dr. Flinn will see fit to loan
you these intruments.
Glad to know that you are again going to measure the
patients at the Elgin State Hospital who were given radium chloride
internally, as with this second series of tests you should have some
real basic date.
I received your letter enclosing copy of comminica-
tion addressed to Dr. Ewing, and I are in hopes that Dr. Ewing will take
this matter up with Dr. McNéel in behalf of your cause. I presume that
Dr. Ewing has acknowledged your letter stating his position in the matter.
In one of your recent letters you enclosed a clipping
from the Kansas City Star of May 10th, relating to a discussion of
Sanford Withers before the A.M.A. in New Orleans, about the radium that
is being produced by a Denver Company. This doubtless refers to the
Shattuck Chemical Company. As you know we were negotiating with
irr. Potter regording his production, but were unable to get together
and I have, therefore, little or no knowledge as to the progress which
they have made. Frankly I very much doubt whether they will be able
to produce radium from Colorado ores at a price that will enable them
to meet present prices for radium. This is especially true in these
depressed times when they will doubtless experience difficulties in
disposing of their by-products, urenium and vanad un.
With kind regards, Iam
Sincerely yours,
hHBarker:RH
