July 19th,1932. Mr. Edwin F. Smith, c/o Edwards, Smith & Dawson, No. 1 Exchange P1., Jersey City, N.J. Dear Mr. Smith: Re: La Porte vs I.S.Radium Gorporation In accordance with the request contained in your letter of July 12th, we are glad to herewiti send you copy of letter addressed to the various insurance companies, under date of 5/12/31. Relative to the second paragraph of your letter, I must advise that during the interum between when we discussed my visiting Doctors Martland and Humphries lirs. LaPorte died, and we obtained a copy of the death certificate, which we felt gave us all the information which Dr. Martland could give relative to this case, especially in view of the fact that he conducted the autopsy. You will note that I reported to you on this subject in my letter of June 9th, 1932, setting forth the reasons ascribed on the death certificate as causing her denise - namely, Occupational Radium Poisoning in watch dial industry, Ostegenic Sarcoma of Pelvis, with contributory causes letastasis to Lungs. The case was discussed with Dr. Humphries, and he was very positive in his view that she vas definitely a radium case, and he seemed to feel that he had more or less control over the case, which proved not to be the case. I believe that Dr. Humphries and Dr. Martland and both definitely committed as to their feelings regarding this case. There is probably not a great deal to be gained by discussing the subject further with them. Very truly yours, Vice President. HHBarker:Ri enc.
