February 26, 1935. Dr. S. C.Land, University of Minneosta, Minneapolis, Minn. Dear Dr. Lind: 1 must apologize for not having answered your letter of January 14th before this. The principal point which Mr. Emmer- glick endeavored to make with reference to your article on the B Solubility of Radium Sulphate" was to the effect that redium sul- phate was not,as we had endeavored to put before the court, an entirely insoluble material. I doubt very seriously if he made much of an impression upon the court's mind, principally, because the court stated that after the cross-examination of the writer, he could not see where there was any difference of opinion between testimony adduced and the article to which Mr. Emmerglick #88 referring. Frank- ly, I am a little bit of the opinion that the court did not appreciate the full importance of the article. As far as allowing the article to be introduced as a exhibit, the court denied this, and that suited us better than to have had the article introduced. I do not believe the question will be taken up any further at this time. Thanks for your offer of reprints, but am gled to state I have several of these in my file. With reference to your re-determining the solubility of 100% sulphate, and your thought that perhaps the Radium Belge Company would be glad to accommodate you in supplying you with material similar to which they are preparing for international standards; I am of the opinion they would undoubtedly be pleased to help you out at a price of $50. per milligram. I would suggest your communicating with Mr. Kearney, of the Radium Chemical Company, #1 East 42nd Street, New York City, who handle the distribution of redium for the Redium Belge in the states. My suggestion as to price is based on the fact that I know they are selling radium in rather small quantities at & price of $50.. There has been considerable delay in the presentation of briefs to Judge Forman due to his request for a transcript of the testimony. As you know, the testimony was quite voluminous, and to date same has not been completed, partly on account of one of the stenographers having been in court at the Hauptmann trial. We feel - 2 - Dr. S. C. Lind Feb. 26, 1935. that we will be fortunate if we have 8 decision in this matter by mid-summer. With best regards to Mrs. Lind and yourself, I am, Sincerely yours, HHBarker:DK Vice-President
