establish its plant provided it follows the recommen dations
of the United States Public Health Service. I also send you
herewith photostatic copy of letter dated December 6, 1934
from the Chairman of the Industrial Committee of the City
of Orange in which he states that the City would be glad
to welcome the Radium Company back to its old plant in
Orange. However, you will note that the City's representative
has requested the approval of the State Labor Commissioner
as well as that of Dr. Martland who is still the Chief
Medical Examiner of Essex County.
From a very thorough knowledge of the sub je ct gained
over a period of a number of years I can assure you that the
conclusions arri ved at by Dr. Martland in his letter of
February 11, 1935 are beyond question. I would therefore
appreciate it very much if you would write a letter to me
as counsel of the United States Radium Corporati on stating
that the re-establishment of the plant of the United States
Radium Corporation at 412 Alden Street, Orange, New Jersey
would have the approval of the Department of Labor provided
as Dr. Martland states, the company will follow the recommenda-
tions specified by the United States Public Health Service.
Here aga in may I state that the United States Public
Health Service has gone into the matter very thoroughly and
has made certain specific recommendations for carrying on the
work in question which the Radium Company is only too glad
to follow in every detail.
Thanking you for your kind co nsi deration of the
matter and with kindest personal regards,
Sincerely yours,
EAM:AG
