ERNST A. MAY, M.D., F.A.C.R., F.I.C.S. 157 SOUTH HARRISON STREET EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY January 4, 1945. R. E. Humphries, M.D. 637 Central Avenue, 30000 0 the East Orange, N. J. Re: Mrs. Albina Larice Films # 7936 Dear Dr. Humphries: X-rays were taken of the lumbar spine and pelvis with the portable x-ray unit in the patient's home. The films include the upper third of both femurs. All bone structures show a pronounc- ed calcium deficiency. The left hip joint is completely destroyod. The destruction also invrlves the head and neck of the left femur. There is an irregular area of calcification which protudes in a medial directionfrom the hip joint. It is evidently an extension of the destrctive mass that involves the hip joint. Similar, but smaller, areas of destruction are seen involving the entire iliac bone. The right hip shows a similar area of destruction which, however, is not as extensive as the area in the left hip joint. It has involved the head and neck of the femur as well as the acetabulum of the hip joint. Diagnosis: Malignant destruction of both hip joints, probably osteogenic sarcoma, No definite evidonce of malignant involvement of the lumbar spine. Very truly yours, Ernst A. May, M. D. EAM:d
