COPY Factory Department Home Office, Whitehall, Private London, S. W. I. Dear Professor Flinn, Dr. Bridge has handed me your letter of the 13th ultimo on the subject of the supposed effects of radium workers, in the use of luminous paint. You have seen Dr. Rosher's report, and that really is the only evidence we have of effects on the workers. It was as the result of what Dr. Overton found in two of the cases that it was thought well to hand the matter to Dr. Rosher. Such limited inquiry as has been made here has not revealed symtoms in any way comparable with those described in the Journal of Industrial Hygiene as occurring in a factory in America. No case of necrosis has been brought to light, and I do not know of any jaw necrosis in persons who have worked in this industry, outside of those reported from the United States. I am in close touch with the Medical Inspectors of Factories on the Continent, and also with the Director of the Medical Section of the International Labour Office - Dr. L. Carozzi - and I am pretty sure to have my attention called to such cases, if they had been observed. They will be on the watch now. Believe me, Yours very truly, (Signed) F. H. Legge Senior Medical Inspector of Factories Professor F.B. Flinn College of Physicians & Surgeons Columbia University, 437 West 59th Street, New York. Note by Dr. Flinn; Dr. Legge is considered one of the leading men in Industrial Diseases in the world and I am very much pleased to get his comments.
