nazarus and recommend needed changes in the statutes which affect occupa- tional hazards. 1 WHEREAS, In the past few years there has developed many new occupational diseases 2 among these being radium necrosis, and 3 WHEREAS, Out of seven hundred and ten industries carried on in New Jersey, there 4 are said to be fifty-three occupational diseases, only ten of which are included 5 among the compensable diseases, and 6 WHEREAS, Some girls have died and others are said to be dying as a result of radium 7 necrosis and other occupational diseases, and 8 WHEREAS, No scientific study of this situation has been made, 1 BE IT ENACTED, by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey: 1 1. There is hereby appointed a commission of six members, consisting of three 2 members of the Assembly to be appointed by the Speaker thereof, and three members 3 of the Senate to be appointed by the President thereof, 1 2. Such commission shall organize as soon as may be after their appointment 2 upon the call of the Governor and shall elect a chairman and vice-chairman from its 3 members and appoint a secretary, who may be or may not be a member of said com- 4 mission. 1 3. The commission shall be charged with a duty of inquiring into and making 2 a survey of occupational hazards. 1 4. The commission shall recommend to the one thousand nine hundred and 2 twenty-nine session of the Legislature needed changes in the statutes of New Jer- 3 sey which affect occupational hazards to bring them up to date and in line with 4 progress.
