NOME, ALASKA: (village of
Date
Ukivok, south of the Bering Straits, is visited by
the USS BURTON ISLAND, ice breaker which crushed thru ice as thick as
eight feet (four feet ice and four feet snow covering it)--see Eskimos
who call this the "ship that leans against the ice"--Eskimos climbed
aboard to visit the ship that amazed them as the first ship to ever get
thrue-travel shots in ice covered boat, nearing land=-Eskimos fishing
thru ice==Cmdr.Jack E.Gibbon,Skipper of the Burton Island,meet Father
Tom Cunningham, Catholic Missionary and an American Schoolteacher and
his wife(only Americans on the Island)
