Giant Navy Flying Boat (R3Y-2) is used by the
U.S.Marines to land troops on beach for training assault as part of
Operation Ski-Jump--plane is 80-ton water-based plane,can fly better
than 400 mph,carry 103 fully equipped combat troops,and operates at a
distance of more than 2,000 nautical miles--plane can land on water,ru
up on beach and let troops out thru bou--bow opens upward like lid of
auto trunk,opens 6°8" high and 8°4" wide--can carry more than 24 tons
of cargo if not carrying troops--it backs off beach via 4 reverse-pitc
turbo-props and makes standard water takeoff in 30 sec.--scenes:LGen.
