Thomas,USCG, Commanding officer of NORTHWIND on her bridge--free the MOUNT OLYMPUS=-sub SENNET in ice,freed and towed out by NORTHWIND.. copter in air, NORTHWIND breaking Ice for passage into Little America-- more same==NORTHWIND arrives Little America--party ashore at Little America #3,site of 1939 expedition--take shovel from marker pole,dig iz and find entrance thru which USMC Capt. Vernon D.Boyd(was member of '39 expedition), makes tight squeeze,helped by LCdr.J.C.McCoy, "SN,and Dr. Paul Siple(2 other 39 vets)--Capt Boye pushed up pole from below to show larger entrance--it's opened--he brings uplamp found below and others enter=-We have no interior footage--ls from ice as MERRICK(AKA 97) comes in and ties up at Little America to "dead man" made by put- ting timber in hole, pouring on water to freeze and make firm hold in lieu of anchorev USS YANCEY (AKA 93)also shown=-bov numbers can be seen ==penguins (of course)--var.scs.unloading USS MERRICK AND USS YANCEY.. building supply road with matting and timbers as needed, and moving supplies inland to start Little American 04, under construction ARCTIC U.S.NAVY--U.S.COAST CUARD - USS NORTHAIND MONTAGE (Ice breaking) -
