Naval Shipyard in the chain shop--gen.ses.showing
how huge piecea of steel are formed into a U while white hot then put
in roaring furnace==from furnace they are put in big drop-forge hammer
rated at 36,138,176 lbs.--each link weighs 360 lbs. and is 2°42" long==
breaking point will be 21/2 MILION LBS..-this chain is being forged for
the new carrier USS FORRESTAL-in charge of the chain shop is 35 yr.old
Paul Ivas=-louise Doherty holds the smalles link ever forged in this
shop (3/4")--John Miller, Leadingman Drop Forger
