Subject: Seven Tribes
Cameron, I spoke with the State Director for NRCS in Oklahoma (Darrel
Dominick) and he told me the following:
The tribes are asking for two separate positions: an outreach coordinator
at
Cameron College and an NRCS tribal conservationist located on tribal
lands.
NRCS has been working closely with the Seven Tribes on thie issue of an
NRCS
tribal conservationist and have told them it's a high priority.
Unfortunately, this is a tough budget year and there is no funding
available
for this NRCS conversationist position at present. The proposal for the
outreach coordinator at the college may have gone through our Civil Rights
Office and that office is looking into it and will call you back (I'm
leaving
for Colorado in five minutes and won't be back until March 23) In the
meantime, Glenda Humiston, Deputy Under Secretary for Natural Resources and
Environment, is following up for me. Her phone number is 720-7173.
Cameron,
the Office of Civil Rights should contact you directly but if they don't,
please call Mike Green at 720-7117 who is looking into this as well.
(Glenda,
Cameron's phone number is 456-5019.) Thanks!
