Weinstein Jr./OPD/EOP Subject: Civil Rights Coordinating Council polum We had another meeting of the civil rights coordinating council. Here is an update on your issues: (1) Trafficking: Chuck and Maria wanted to get a status update on the DOJ and INS effort on the sweatshop initiative. Both Chuck and Maria wanted to get a sense of how big the trafficking problem is in the US. (2) EEO Backlog: I briefed them on the status of the EEO Backlog regulation, and will send around a copy to all of you. They also wanted to see what else we could do in order to reduce the backlog besides the regulation like get a breakdown by agencies on how big the backlog is and seeing that agencies have fully staffed their EEO offices. We can work together on this. (3) National Origin/Language Rights: Out of the 3 next steps in the chart that was sent around, Chuck and Maria were most interested in (3) which is, ensuring that agencies are complying with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act as it relates to provisions of services to LEP persons by providing legal guidance. 212 -Adom Name Agency Phone Number Judith Winston Education/OGC 401-6000 LR Tom Perez HHS/OCR 619-0403 LR. worker Bill Lann Lee DOJ/CRD 514-2151 Bob Knox EPA 564-2515 Nancy McFadden DOT 366-4702 Juliette Kayyem DOJ 305-0587/514-3413 LR ,worker Bill Yeomans DOJ 307-2572/514-4127 Bernard Anderson DOL 219-6191 LX. worker Shirley Wilcher DOL/OFCCP 693-0101 Eva Plaza HUD 708-4252 LR, worker the Lan Dibaca 514-2734 Writg Putton.
