OFFICE OF TRIBAL BUSINESS INFORMATION CENTERS NATIVE AMERICAN AFFAIRS TRIBAL BUSINESS INFORMATION CENTERS (TBICs) The U.S. Small Business Administration, in cooperation with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, established the Tribal Business Information Centers pilot project to address the unique conditions encountered by reservation-based entrepreneurs. The pilot project, started in fiscal year 1996, is a partnership arrangement between a tribe or tribal college and the SBA. TBICs offer community access to business related computer software technology, provide one-on-one business counseling, and hold business workshops on an on going basis. Additionally, TBIC managers/facilitators have received extensive training in all of SBA's entrepreneurial development programs, lending programs and procurement programs. Specifically, in an effort to foster and enhance economic development on Indian reservations, TBIC managers/facilitators have received extensive training in the agency's lending, 8(a) Business Development, Small Disadvantaged Business and HUBZone Empowerment Contracting programs. What Can TBICs Do For You? Whether you plan to start a new business or need assistance to expand or improve an existing business, TBICs can help. In a TBIC you will have access to the tools and advice necessary to evaluate and improve your marketing or sales techniques, price your product or service, and/or explore the possibilities offered by the international marketplace or tourism. TBICs also offer invaluable guidance and counseling in market research and on obtaining business capital and credit. What Resources Do TBICs Have? TBICs combine the latest in state-of-the-art personal computer, graphic workstations, CD-ROM technology and interactive videos with on-site counseling and business-related training courses.
