Types of work slots: Workfare Does not have to be 20 hours per week Typically requires 20 to 25 hours (three or four days) per month at the federal minimum wage — less if the local minimum wage is higher Does not have to resemble regular job: anything that the state directs the recipient to do can be workfare Because of the smaller number of hours, can be very different from the work slots states need to create for TANF: food stamp recipients can be given placements where there are not enough hours of work available to count as a TANF placement Outreach needed to persuade public agencies and community organizations to sponsor placements
