The briefing will discuss Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) and how they have helped many low-income working families build sufficient savings so they may buy their first home, pay for post -secondary education, or capitalize a business. Representatives Joe Pitts (R-PA) and Charlie Stenholm (D-TX) have introduced bipartisan legislation to create the first nationwide IDA program through federal tax credits for matching funds. Identical legislation has been introduced in the Senate by Senators Joe Lieberman (D-CT) and Rick Santorum (R-PA). I have attached a summary of the legislaiton.
