USDA has provided $2.2 billion in loans under its Single-Family Housing Loan Program to 43,000 Delta households to buy or improve their homes. For rental housing, USDA provided more that $254 million in low interest loans for more than 10,000 rental units in rural areas of the Delta. At the Delta Vision, Delta Voices: Mississippi Delta Beyond 2000 Conference, President Clinton and Vice President Gore unveiled a $224,320 award to be given by USDA for home-building assistance in Lee County, Arkansas. May 2, 2000 A White House press release entitled "A Blueprint for the Future" highlighted the Administration's FY 2001 budget and legislative priorities for teenagers and their families. Initiatives included $75 million in funding for the Youthbuild program. The program targets 16-24 year old high school dropouts, and provides disadvantaged young adults with education and employment skills through rehabilitating and building housing for low-income and homeless people. April 18, 2000 At the COMDEX Conference, President Clinton announced the HUD expansion of Neighborhood Network Centers to 1,000 over the next two years. These centers are computer-training facilities located in or near HUD-assisted housing developments that offer computer access, staff assistance, and a range of training resource to housing residents. March 7, 2000 In an Executive Memorandum, the President called upon HUD, OMB and DPC to prepare recommendations on how newly available funds could be used to further strengthen Federal housing programs and to develop a plan to enhance comprehensive affordable housing opportunities. February 25, 2000 The Administration's FY 2001 budget provided $650 million in block grants for the Indian Housing Block Grant program at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, an increase of $30 million over FY 2000. Within BIA, $32 million, a doubling of the 2000 level, would be used to repair or replace dilapidated homes across Indian Country. February 7, 2000 President Clinton and Vice President Gore's FY 2001 Native American commitments proposes permission through HUD's Indian Housing Block Grant, for tribes or tribally-designated housing entities to provide housing or housing assistance for qualified law enforcement officers. The budget proposed to set aside $5 million within the Indian Housing Block Grant to create non-profit homeownership intermediaries in Indian Country. They would serve as a catalyst for the creation of a private homeownership market ion Indian Country and would support local capacity-building intermediaries or "one-stop mortgage centers." The budget proposed to set-aside $5 million with the HUD Community Development Block Grant program for competitive grants awarded to tribal colleges to assist their communities with neighborhood revitalization, housing, and economic development. January 27, 2000 The President's FY2001 Budget included the following proposals to advance housing initiatives: $690 million for 120,000 new housing vouchers for America's hard-pressed working families $25 million in funding for Second Chance Homes for teen mothers 3
