STATUS OF SOCIAL SERVICES BLOCK GRANT APPROPRIATION Under the current Senate proposal, the Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) would be cut $1,175,000,000 from its FY 2000 enacted level of $1,775,000,000. The current House proposal would fund SSBG at $1.7 billion, a cut of $75 million. Although some Senate leaders are indicating that SSBG cuts will be restored, it is not clear yet that they have identified funds to accomplish this. The attached talking points describe the impact on the SSBG program if the Senate mark were ultimately passed.
