This initiative is called the ("Safe Communities/Safe Schools Program") ("Safe, Disciplined, and Drug-Free Environments for Learning") ("Safe Learning Environments: The Community-Wide, Comprehensive Approach") What is the "Safe Communities/Safe Schools Program intended to do? The purpose of this Program is to assist school districts and communities in the implementation of comprehensive community-wide strategies for creating safer environments for learning. The Program would enable eligible applicants to utilize a "one stop shopping" approach to ensuring that all elements of a comprehensive Safe School Plan/Strategy are in place and are operating effectively. Which Agencies are involved in this initiative? The departments of Education, Justice, and Health and Human Services are involved in this Program. Various offices / programs from these various agencies will contribute support (financial, technical) to this endeavor. How will the agencies manage this Program, will an applicant have to respond to the requests of all the agencies involved? Funds from several different programs will be joined together and where possible managed by one agency. (TBD). Funds for hiring new law enforcement officers while linked to this initiative will be administered by the COPS Program. (Funds for mental health services will be administered by ). The three agencies involved will establish a management structure whereby administration for this program will be handled by a inter-departmental working group. The Inter-departmental working group will be responsible for making policy decisions for all aspects of this Program. What sources of funds will be available for this Program and what can those funds be used for?
