VicHealth is the first organisation of its kind\nestablished by a Government under legislation to use a small percentage of a dedicated tobacco\nlevy to promote health. In this role, Ms Galbally has developed policy, training and\nimplementation models of health promotion which have now been adapted across Australia and\ninternationally, including developing countries. Among these is Partnerships With Healthy\nIndustry which promotes organisational health. The health promotion programs are aimed at\ngroups across the lifespan, including mothers and babies, children and families, adolescents,\nadults of working life and especially disadvantaged groups - Aborigines, disabled non-English\nspeaking background and low income groups. The implementation models have been\ndeveloped for settings such as primary health centres, schools, workplaces, villages,\ncommunities and cities. The health promotion programs developed by Ms Galbally integrate\nnon-communicable and communicable disease prevention within the context of environmental\nand mental health promotion.\nMs Galbally was previously the Founding Director of the Australian Commission for the\nFuture, a body established in 1985 by the Australian Government to develop wide community\ninvolvement in scientific and technological development within the context of planning for the\nshorter term and long term future. The Commission developed ongoing programs such as\nAsialink, the Australian Greenhouse program. the Future of Work, the Science Shop Network\nand the Futures Education program. Extensive international links were developed with\ninternational programs such as the Global Futures Network.\nFor three years from 1982 Ms Galbally was Executive Officer of the Myer Foundation and\nthe Sidney Myer Fund. the leading Foundations in Australia's philanthropic world. During\nher time with these Foundations she initiated many ongoing projects and programs with social\njustice and human rights goals. These included the Community Interest Computer\nConsultancy, the Health Issue Centre and the Older Persons Action Centre. As Chair of\nthe Australian Association of Philanthropy, Ms Galbally established productive exchange\nwith international philanthropy.\nFrom 1979 until 1982, Ms Galbally was Senior Policy Officer, the Victorian Council of\nSocial Service, the federating body for non government organisations.
