On behalf of Operation Smile, I would like to thank you for your help in producing Mrs.
Clinton's video message for World Journey of Hope '99. The American medical
volunteers, as well as prominent leaders that welcomed Operation Smile in each of the
countries, had an opportunity to hear the message at press conferences and other special
events. We greatly appreciated your willingness to support this largest-ever surgical
mission to help children suffering from facial deformities.
Attached is a letter I hope you can help me deliver to Mrs. Clinton from Operation
Smile's co-founder Dr. Bill Magee. The letter is an invitation for Mrs. Clinton to attend
our final press conference on Monday, April 12 at Andrews Air Force Base, where we
have just received confirmation that The Flying Hospital will be able to land. The noon-
time event will mark the return of Operation Smile's medical volunteers, who will have
just completed a nine-week mission to 18 countries. We realize that Mrs. Clinton's
schedule at this late date may not permit her attendance, but I hope that you will be able
to share this invitation with her.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the compelling video message you created for
Operation Smile's most remarkable mission ever, World Journey of Hope '99. I am pleased to
announce that with the help of thousands of medical volunteers around the world, Operation
Smile in just nine weeks has changed the lives of 5,000 children in 18 countries by treating their
facial deformities. It is a milestone event for our organization, and I greatly appreciate the role
you played in commending the efforts of our volunteers and global partners. Your video
message was well-received and prominently displayed at press conferences, receptions,
education conferences and other special events during the 18-country mission.
I also would like to take this opportunity to share our plans for celebrating the journey's end in
Washington, D.C. and to extend a special invitation to you. The journey has been an amazing
success, and we look forward to recognizing the efforts of our volunteers and supporters at a
press conference upon our return to the United States next week. We have just received approval
to land The Flying Hospital and host the press conference at Andrews Air Force Base. We
would be greatly honored by your presence at the press conference, which will be held at noon
on Monday, April 12.
To update you on the progress of the mission, World Journey of Hope '99 has continued to
attract the attention of leaders worldwide in addition to the five Latin American Presidents who
joined us in February. Pope John Paul II offered a special blessing for Operation Smile during
its mission in Rome, and Queen Noor provided support of our efforts and promised to continue
to help in the future. Both Mrs. Yassar Arafat and the First Lady of the Philippines spent a day
with us in the operating room, assisting with life-changing surgeries for children.
On behalf of Operation Smile, our dedicated team of medical volunteers and children around the
world, I hope that you will be able to join us on Monday, April 12 as we celebrate the
overwhelming success of the largest-ever surgical mission. It promises to be a momentous
occasion, and your presence would bring remarkable attention to our efforts to end the
unnecessary suffering of children worldwide. Thank you for your past support and for your
consideration of this invitation.
