FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: MARSHA BERRY MAY 7, 1998 STEVEN COHEN JULIE MASON 202-456-2960 FIRST LADY HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON TO VISIT FRANCE AND SWITZERLAND MAY 12 - 15, 1998 WASHINGTON, DC -- First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton will visit France on May 12 and 13 to highlight the close ties between our two nations. She will travel to Tulle and Correze, France with Mrs. Chirac to see rural grassroots democracy in action. In Paris, on the 13th, the First Lady will participate in several activities. She will inaugurate a school computer link-up program between schools in Paris and the United States in cooperation with NASA. She will make remarks at a woman's roundtable and will attend a luncheon hosted by President Chirac in her honor. The First Lady will also pay courtesy calls on Prime Minister and Mrs. Jospin. On May 14-15, Mrs. Clinton will be in Geneva, Switzerland to receive the World Health Organization/United Arab Emirates Health Education Prize and to address the WHO awards assembly. The First Lady is being given the award for her contributions to advancing health care around the world. The UAE Health Foundation Prize is one of two major prizes awarded each year during the World Health Assembly. The award consists of a plaque and a $40,000 prize which will be donated to a WHO designated organization in honor of Mrs. Clinton. The First Lady will also meet with United Nations leader and participate in a discussion on human rights to mark the 50th anniversary of the U.N. Declaration on Human Rights. Mrs. Clinton will then join President Clinton in Birmingham, England later in the day on the 15th for the Summit of the Eight.
