The event begins with a 900 person luncheon, followed by a private reception/photoline for WLF General Members (who contributed to this event or raised membership dues), followed by a Roundtable Discussion with WLF Finance and Executive Council Members (who contributed to this event or raised membership dues). We have had an overwhelming response to this event. This is WLF's largest event since the 1996 elections and our most successful event. We will raise over $500,000 from 900 supporters. There is a Host Committee of over 160 women, and approximately 50 Vice Chairs and Co-Chairs of the event. Given the limited space, we are still not able to accommodate several hundred individual donors. This event is twice the size of the previous two years event in New York. New York is WLF's most active chapter. There are 8 to 10 briefings a year for members and ongoing outreach to women from all communities. Acknowledgments A complete list will follow. Suggested Talking Points We would suggest that the general theme of the speech focus on women's political leadership. We would like to encourage everyone at the luncheon to be inspired to return to their local communities and be a messenger, and a leader, for the Democratic Party. In 1998 we saw once again the importance of women as voters, as activists and as candidates. In New York, it was women who helped elect Senator Chuck Schumer. We can expect women to continue to be critical as we look forward to 2000. We expect, and we need, women to be intregally involved with electing Democrats to the majority tt party. It was women who helped make certain that the last President of the 20th Century was a Democrat and we know that it will be women who help elect a Democrat to be the first President of the 21st century. PURPOSE This event is a fundraiser event for the Women's Leadership Forum of the Democratic National Committee. 11. BACKGROUND This dinner is a fundraiser for the Women's Leadcrship Forum of the Democratic National Committee. The Women's Leadership Forum (WLF) promotes leadership and grassroots values-based policies for women at the local, state and national levels of the Democratic Party. With Tipper Gore as Honorary Chair, one of the WLF's newest and most successful programs is "100,000 for 2000" a grassroots political membership program which is designed to engage 100,000 women in state and local Democratic Party activities by the 2000 elections. A list of the Event Co-Chairs and Host Committee is attached. The response to this event was tremendous, and the WLF has had to turn people away for lack of space. There are close to 900 women expected at this luncheon and a waiting list that is already over 300 names long. This event has three tiers: the main luncheon with 900 plus guests, a photo receiving line with approximately 120 guests, and finally, a roundtable with 50 guests. III.
