FOIA Number: 2006-1733-F FOIA MARKER This is not a textual record. This is used as an administrative marker by the William J. Clinton Presidential Library Staff. Collection/Record Group: Clinton Presidential Records Subgroup/Office of Origin: First Lady's Office Series/Staff Member: Speechwriting Subseries: Laura Schiller: HRC Speeches 9/95 - 11/96, Clinton/Gore Speeches 1996 OA/ID Number: 24622 FolderID: Folder Title: HRC Speeches 5/96 - 6/96: [6/7 Working Families Roundtable] Stack: Row: Section: Shelf: Position: S 61 2 4 1 Working Families Roundtable 6/7 FIRST LADY HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION WITH WORKING FAMILIES PRIMANTI BROTHERS DELI PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA JUNE 7, 1996 Thank you all for taking time from your very busy schedules to share your stories with me this afternoon. Down in Washington, there's so much rhetoric flying around about what we need to do to help working families that the true opinions and needs of real people get obscured. I'm here to listen to your experiences and your concerns for the future. What are the challenges that you face as working parents? How do you manage to balance work and family responsibilities? What policies or initiatives in your workplaces or communities have served you well? I'm also very interested in knowing if you've ever been in a situation where you've needed the Family and Medical Leave Law to help you meet your responsibilities. A new bipartisan study has shown that the three-year old law has had a positive impact on employees and has not been a burden to most employers. I understand that college is in the very near future for some of your children. What are your expectations for them? Because of the Crime Bill, there are more than 1,600 new police officers in Pennsylvania. Has community policing made a difference in your neighborhoods? I want you to know that I will take these concerns to the President. He is committed to helping all of you, and everyone else in this country who is willing to work hard and take responsibility achieve their dreams. ###
