I wish I could join you in person tonight to celebrate the life of an extraordinary American citizen, Ralph Lauren. Most people know how good Ralph makes us look on the outside. What many people don't know are the countless things he does to make us feel good on the inside as well. Just think about all that he's done to fight the tragedy of breast cancer. Like so many others, he grieved at the loss of Nina Hyde, who was diagnosed and ultimately died of breast cancer. Determined to honor her memory, and help others fight this terrible disease, Ralph founded the Nina Hyde Center For Breast Cancer Research and Treatment at Georgetown University and the CFDA's Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative. But that's not all. Today, young people go to college through the Jackie Robinson Foundation Film students at Columbia University get their projects funded AIDS patients get treatments through AmFAR clinical trials. All because of Ralph Lauren. We are indebted to him for his generosity and his compassion. Ralph Lauren is a true humanitarian, and I join you in saluting him tonight.
