THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON February 19, 1994 MEMORANDUM FOR RICKI SEIDMAN TONY WILSON PATTI SOLIS CINDY GIRE FROM: MARCIA L. HALE SUBJECT: INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS CONFERENCES FOR 1994 CC: MACK MCLARTY HAROLD ICKES JACK QUINN MAGGIE WILLIAMS SKILA HARRIS CHRISTINE VARNEY The following is my recommendation for the administration participation in the 1994 Intergovernmental Affairs Conferences. Please realize that these are preliminary recommendations and should be considered subject to change as the agenda of the administration continues to change and the year moves on. FEBRUARY The National Association of State Treasurers (NAST) gather in Washington, DC for their Annual Conference from February 28 - March 2. This would be a good venue for an administration official to discuss the HHS state-by-state health care analysis and the balanced budget amendment. MARCH The National Association of Counties (NACo) Legislative Conference is from March 5 - 8 in Washington, DC. I have requested The Vice President for this. The National League of Cities (NLC) Annual Conference is from March 12 - 15 in Washington, DC. I recommend either The President or the First Lady address this organization. This presents a good venue for numerous issues to be discussed. Please note that due to the Vice President's travel schedule during these days, he will most likely not be able to address this group. In addition, The President, The Vice President and numerous Cabinet officials participated in the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The NLC deserves serious administration attention as well.
