Although very active at home, for many of them this is their first trip to Washington, D.C. to lobby, Most of their week will be spent in training for local political activism in terms of both issue work and electoral work. ACTWU's top elected officers will probably not be in attendance, but there are two staff people you should recognize: - Carolyn Kazdin, Legislative Director - Peter Goldberger, Education Director The four major issues they are emphasizing in their training are: 1. 8(A)2 - the company union issue which Republicans are pushing and we have promised to veto. 2. Minimum wage increase 3. Preserving the 40 hour work week 4. Preserving and strengthening OSHA There is also a lot of interest in the welfare reform issue. Other things to note:
