THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
March 28, 1995
MEMORANDUM
TO:
Harold Ickes
FROM:
Mike Lux
RE:
ACTWU Reception
CC:
Doug Sosnik
You will be speaking to a group of about 50 rank and file union activists in town for a
week long school on political action. Although very active at home, for many of them
this is their first trip to Washington, D.C. to lobby, Most of their week will be spent in
training for local political activism in terms of both issue work and electoral work.
ACTWU's top elected officers will probably not be in attendance, but there are two staff
people you should recognize:
- Carolyn Kazdin, Legislative Director
- Peter Goldberger, Education Director
The four major issues they are emphasizing in their training are:
1.
8(A)2 - the company union issue which Republicans are pushing and we have
promised to veto.
2.
Minimum wage increase
3.
Preserving the 40 hour work week
4.
Preserving and strengthening OSHA
There is also a lot of interest in the welfare reform issue.
Other things to note:
