Former President Bush would like to visit Norfolk on August 14 in
commemoration of VJ Day. He would tour the USS George Washington,
talk personally to a small group of sailors, and then make
remarks and take Q and A from the crew. (This would be covered
by the press.) He would then take a helicopter to the Oceana,
again make brief remarks and take Q and A from personnel
(possible press coverage here as well).
Bush would like to be invited by Secretary Dalton and Dalton
would like to extend the invitation to him.
POTUS is expected to be on vacation at that time, although it is
possible that the schedule may slip a day or SO if Congress does
not finish its work.
This request comes from Willie Blacklow, assistant secretary for
public affairs at Defense.
McCurry has no problem with this from the press perspective.
Please advise.
Thanks, cuties.
