CURRENT FUNDING SOURCES:
Amtrak will be finishing 1997 nearly $100 million in debt. However, the following
traditional sources of funds are available for Amtrak in 1998:

The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 (TRA) provides for an additional source of capital
funds for Amtrak if "reform" legislation is passed. The statute provides $2.2 billion
for Amtrak to be made available in fiscal years 1998 and 1999.
