However, the following traditional sources of funds are available for Amtrak in 1998: Appropriations (in millions): Operating 202 Rail Retirement 142 Northeast Corridor 250 Capital 199 Total 793 The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 (TRA) provides for an additional source of capital funds for Amtrak if "reform" legislation is passed. The statute provides $2.2 billion for Amtrak to be made available in fiscal years 1998 and 1999.
