John: Attached is more information than you could possibly want on the meeting today. I do not think I need to add much other than to say the meeting has shifted from an overall discussion to a more focused discussion on Steel. I worked with the agencies to get responses to the issues as substantive and definitive as possible; we're not quite there but I think we are okay. Administration participants will meet at 2:00 p.m.; at 2:30 Sweeney and Becker will arrive. The meeting with Sweeney and Becker is scheduled to last an hour. You may not want to stay for the entire 1 ½ hours but I do think it is important for you to be there for part of the time. There are two follow-up meetings that we have planned to deal with the broader issues. Rubin is planning a dinner on April 13 -- there is a hold on your schedule. Secondly, Kitty and I have asked the NEC to put together a process with USTR to discuss trade and worker issues. The pre-meeting is set for next Tuesday--we are still working on a date for the meeting with Sweeney and Barshefsky. I will coordinate with Dawn and probably walk over w/ you or just meet you there.
