One-Stop Mortgage Center Initiative: March 29, 1999 Meeting at
Chicago, Illinois
This is to announce the next meeting for all partners (tribal, federal agency and private
industry) in the One-Stop Mortgage Center Initiative. It will be held on Monday, March 29, in
Chicago, Illinois at the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk Hotel, Ballroom B, from 12:00 noon to 5:00
p.m. This meeting is open to anyone who is interested in lending in Indian country, even if they
have not been a previous participant in this initiative.
A significant amount of work has been completed by the five work groups that were
established in November at the meeting at the Navajo Nation. Numerous meetings and
conference calls were held in order to further define barriers to lending as well as to propose and
in some cases, resolve those barriers. The four "national" work groups covered the following
topics:
<> Consistency and Coordination of Federal Mortgage Loan Programs
<> Land Issues
<> Creditworthiness of Homebuyers
<> Lack of Private Participants
Additionally, since the Navajo Nation is the site of the first One-Stop Mortgage Center, a
local work group was established there to address that reservation's need.
Prior to the March 29 meeting, participants from our One-Stop Mortgage mailing list will
receive a draft report which represents work completed by each of the five work groups. The
purpose of this meeting will be to discuss and revise the report as the participants feel is
necessary.
